Portrait Photographers

Good Morning All,

I came across this article "Dear Portrait Photographers" this morning while having my coffee.  Please take a moment and read, and you will understand the rest of my blog. http://petapixel.com/2016/03/21/dear-portrait-photographers/  I used to be in awe of photographers that could capture an expression that left you wondering. I always look at portraits to see if they communicate something to me.  Not of happiness or sadness, but that fleeting moment your model forgets you are there, and lets their mind drift.  They let down their guard for a brief second, and in that second, you capture that moment.  A moment when they reveal a part of themselves that they may keep hidden from the public.  An intimate moment shared between model and photographer that will never come again.  And that photographer will edit that moment and make it theirs, put their brand on it, and share that moment with the world, hoping that someone else will look at it, and wonder; where did they go in that moment.

I like to people watch.  I watch how people behave, their body language, their expressions.  When I make a portrait, I tend to talk to my subject while I am mindfully fiddling around.  I want my model to relax, to forget I am taking their portrait, in hopes that I can catch an unguarded moment.

Thank you for taking the time to read, and have a great day.
